There are times when it seems easier to stay discouraged by ill health, than make the effort to rise above fear and sickness. However, such mental resignation doesn’t bring health and freedom. In this situation, the answer can be to mentally stand up to negative feelings by prayerfully elevating our thinking. Lifting our thought to a higher spiritual position, leads to freedom and harmony.
Elevate your thinking.
One sunny morning, two church friends set out to sea in their small rowboat for a spot of fishing. Later that day, before they knew it, they were enveloped in thick fog and unable to see land. As they drifted dangerously further out to sea in the shipping channel, fear set in. Big ships wouldn’t see them in the fog.
So, they decided to pray. God was with them, keeping them safe from harm. They had to stop being fearful and maintain their strong faith that God, omnipresent divine Love, had a life-saving solution. So with firm spiritual conviction they kept praying. As they did so, an angel idea came to one of the men – gain elevation. At first this seemed absurd. Gain elevation? What did that mean? But they knew that this idea had come as a result of their prayer and steadfast faith in God’s saving power.
So, obeying the angel message, one man carefully stood up in the boat. As he did so, he found to his astonishment, that his head had risen above the sea fog. From his elevated position he could see the shoreline. They were able to row safely back to land.
This experience shows the kind of mental action that needs to be taken when the fog of ill health rolls in. Don’t be afraid. Turn to God. Prayerfully gain spiritual elevation. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, explains how to do this in her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures page 393:12. “Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man. Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God’s government.”
Taking this mental step has a powerful healing effect. Thought is lifted above the fog of illness. We become spiritually empowered. We understand that God is loving and caring for us in every situation. This is what I have proved throughout all my life. Whenever I have needed healing, I’ve followed Mary Baker Eddy’s instructions, prayed, gained spiritual elevation, and experienced complete healing. I know for certain that freedom from sickness is possible. God has made us capable of achieving health and harmony.
